Mikey Monday: Love & Memories

Lying dead on the floor in front of my TV was not an ideal Saturday night, but at least I wasn’t the only one.  I won’t get down on the Caps for their game seven performance because it’s not what I want to remember all summer.

This year, I watched more hockey than ever.  I wore out the Center Ice Package and my DVR (and my husband’s patience).  I went to more games this season than in my entire life combined – 29, that we could remember, and every one of them a Caps game.  I gave up trying to fight it.

Just when you’re feeling down, you can count on Mike to take a photo of himself standing in the bathroom for you to find on the internet.

So thanks, Caps, for a season that was better for me than it was on the scoresheet: more fun, more memorable, possibly more frustrating than any game recap could recall.  Some of my all-time hockey fan highlights were written this year.  There were also moments of tough love when doors were slammed, channels changed – I once got so mad at Mike that I threw a fit and bought a Backstrom shirt out of spite.

Yeah, I’m crazy.  I just never thought it would be for them.

Now “there’s always next year,” and the year after that.  But what I’ll really miss is what can never quite be repeated – the ecstatic, hilarious, infuriating magic that is a single season, with a single team, and almost always ends too soon.

Oh, Pants. Beautifully written. That last paragraph is making me wanna cry. Right here. At my desk.

One of my favorite memories will be finally meeting you and meeting you over and over again at those Caps games. 🙂 Here’s to more “meetings” in the offseason, next season and beyond!!

    • You and Josie appeared in the Caps highlight column about 15 times this season. Can’t wait for next year!

Highlight column? How did I miss that? NHL celebrity-dom?? For Josie and meee??

        • Right after Mikey and Nicky, you guys are my favorite thing at Verizon. Even ahead of ice cream and beer. 😉

Devils fan here so I was rooting for the Caps all the way. Though NJD and NYR will be epic (got my Game 4 tickets yesterday) I still wish we were facing the Caps, I need to see Mike in person. I bought tickets to Dev Caps last year but of course, he got hurt so he wasn’t even in NJ. As of this season, when I was introduced to Adam Henrique (and all of a sudden Michael del Zotto?!), I slowly was losing my admiration to Mike. But alas, this picture came across my Tumblr, and behold I fell in love again. Hel-*******-lo!!!!!!! is what came across my mind when I saw this!! His post-season hair has been right on the spot! Really, thank you Mike for gracing us with this picture.

  5. Mikey gives good face.

A+ effort by the Caps this season. I still don’t like them, but they played well. But when you’re competing with the mansomeness that is Henrik Lundqvist, you will lose.

  6. It keeps raining on my face. And we haven’t even figured out which of the 10,000 Caps that are RFA’s/UFA’s are actually coming back. And there’s no coach now.

I’m not going to panic, things will be fine. They’ll re-sign Mikey and Carly and MG will have amazing hair all season and everything will be great as soon as the face-rain stops.

    Caps in 2013.

  8. I don’t like the Caps, but his hair…is just…so…mesmerizing….

But for reals, I’m sincerely sorry for your loss. This is how I felt when the Packers blew up their nearly perfect season in the playoffs, to..that team from New York (barf). Its tough. At least its only like 4 months til next season! 🙂 Though I understand it might yet be too soon to see the bright side. As my roomie said after the Pens lost: “Pens in 8? No? (Sigh) Okay…”

I started my clinical rotations yesterday, and I have to get up at 4:30…so I fell asleep during the game.
