The Detroit Red Wings set the NHL consecutive home game win record last night with 21 straight, edging out two teams (1929-30 Bruins and1975-76 Fyers) to claim the crown. Detroit also holds the record for consecutive road wins (12) [link]. Well la dee freakin’ dah.
The Wings have only 3 home losses this season, the last one on November 3. They’re #1 overall with 80 points, just a step ahead of the NYR (79). And makes Gator feel like…
Then there’s the Chicago Blackhawks 9-game winless streak (8 regulation losses, 1 OT loss). The extended road trip has earned 1 point in 7 games, all losses against Western Conference teams. They’ve been outscored 38-17 and still have to visit NYR and Columbus.
Currently 6th in the West, this isn’t the end of the Blackhawks world. Because the ship can’t sink, right? The Central Divison is by far the strongest in the West (damn you, Detroit!) and hey, 65 points would put you first in the Southeast (yes Caps, I’m talking to you). But there’s a skid and then there’s…
It’s too depressing to listen to them talk. The only things that could possibly make us feel even a little better are Viktor Stalberg’s eyelashes.
Does he have to always look like he just woke up? Ridiculous interview video link. And another ridiculous video:
(Pants Note: We had a Titanic 3D event last night. Forgive us.)

Jack and Rose are clearly wading through my tears in that photo. Of course they were going to lose yesterday. It was Valentine’s Day and I love them so NATURALLY they broke my heart. Add to this my Canucks-loving boyfriend who insists the Hawks will be out of the playoffs by this time next week and the fact that I am being ironically retweeted by CBJ fans… it is a really hard time to be a Hawks fan 🙁 It’s probably a blessing that I will miss 90% of tomorrow’s game… I might find myself cheering for Dan Girardi’s cheekbones, I mean the NYR.
I’m consoling myself with shirtless Brandon Prust and Dan/Landon Girardi videos at rangers.nhl.com.
So proud of my beloved Red Wings. It’s been quite the journey… good thing it isn’t over yet. Cannot wait to see them make the streak even longer.
Sarah Jane, Gator asked me to tell you that she thinks you’re brilliant and wonderful. And I would not be surprised if the Red Wings win another 20 in a row at home. Not at all.
Fellow Wings fan here, and proud as hell of them. Cannot believe they’ve won 21 straight at home and the way they’re playing they’ve got a chance to keep it going!
Let’s hope for 22 tomorrow 🙂
I really believe the Hawks played much better last night, they really need help with their defense (defence for our Canadian friends). Leddy is frustrating the hell out of me. I know he’s a kid, but COME ON. Not looking forward to the Rangers.
Stalberg’s english is really good.
Is it easy for Swedes to learn english or are they all just brilliant? They’re probably just all brilliant. Well, at least Stalberg is.
Obviously did not get the “good-with-languages” part of the Swedish genes. Must consult ancestors.
I was upset that the Hawks gave up a four goal lead, but a win is a win and against this Nashville team I’ll take it. I tuhoght Kruger was maybe the best player on the ice. He was smart defensively and made some beautiful passes. If the Hawks don’t keep Shaw for a very long time that would a huge mistake. His pass to Seabrook on the game winner was amazing. He is so determined and smart. I loe this kid. Stalberg had another solid night and finally seems his hands are catching up to his feet. Crawford was crucial and played well especially in the first. He made a couple incredible saves. The Hawks got into penalty trouble which is why the Predators were able to mount a comeback. They have to stay more disciplined. Good win against a very good team without Toews and Keith who might have been able to prevent the Predators from scoring one or two of their goals while we were on the PK. But thi game makes me 100% sure that I do not want to play Nashville in the first round or any round for that matter.
