Foxy Friday: A User's Guide

A few weeks ago, there was Twitter outrage about a Calgary Herald feature on “Counting down 30 hottest hockey players of 2011” [link].  Turns out the writer is actually from the Vancouver Sun, which seemed to explain a lot to you guys.

We thought the start of 2012 should have a look back at WUYS Foxy Friday honorees of the past:

Now, we try to share the love around the NHL – it wouldn’t be much fun if every Foxy Friday were a Capital, Bruin, Blackhawk or Penguin.  (Be honest, they could fill a whole year.)  And this isn’t a “countdown” per se, just a random sampling of wares.  The Calgary Sun piece has some glaring omissions and weird rankings (Kris Letang is #11?  Unless #1-10 are all Crosby, you’re nuts.), but at least Mike Green made the list.  (Yes, I know he’s from Calgary.)

As we move through this year, Chuck and I sometimes have a little trouble selecting our weekly stud.  There’s no shortage, but we try to be diplomatic.  So keep the suggestions coming!

How about Jordan Eberle? I find that gap of his strangely attractive.

Holy moly ladies- how has Henrik Lundqvist not been given a Foxy Friday shoutout? Those piercing eyes… that flowing hair…. those model good looks????

I hate the Rangers and yet he makes me *swoon*.

  3. Ok, somehow I missed this really stupid list in the Calgary Herald. I’m sorry, but I would never put Toews in second place. In fact, I wouldn’t put him on this list at all. I know he’s popular around here but I think he looks creepy and gross. That said, I’m confident that WUYS could put together a top 30 list that didn’t suck as bad as this one.

Also, I second Kitkat. No Lundqvist on the Calgary list OR Foxy Friday? WTF everyone? He has PERFECT HAIR and LASER BEAM EYES.

    • We have done a number of Hank-centered posts, but never his own Foxy Friday. Several others have been dealt the same tough love – Jordan Staal gets a birthday post every year, so does Stamkos – but have never been Man of the Week.

Um … Alexander Ovechkin was a FOXY FRIDAY and one of the HIGHEST RATED ONES …. There needs to be an AMMENDMENT sister. :0

    • Oops, did I leave him out? Mwahahaha. No seriously, I had to go through the tags manually and I’m sure I missed some others. I was trying to fill a screening at the time. 😉

Helm at #6 on Calgary’s list makes sense (to me anyway), but that is a terrible picture of him!

Watch this video of Varly and you’ll see that he’s a cutie and could be a very good Foxy Friday with his dimples. He’s also on the Avs so that would give you some variety. Ryan O’Reilly would be another good choice as well (when he’s shaved, otherwise he looks like a mountain man with his beard).

I agree that Lundqvist needs to be featured. Just his clothes alone are worth a post!

  7. Since I too am from Calgary and helped start the sharing of said ridiculous list, I feel the need to clarify: The list appeared on the Calgary Herald website, but originally came from the Vancouver Sun. Which explains why there’s a disproportionately high number of Canucks. Doesn’t excuse the other idiocy (with the exception of Sid and Tazer) – but still.

I know he’s a Penguin, but I’m still holding out for Matt Niskanen! I also think Brandon Prust and Carl Hagelin from the Rangers are hott thanks to HBO 24/7. haha Also, Michal Neuvirth of the Capitals is adorable! Such a baby face:)

    • I *almost* did Nisky yesterday. He’ll get there, and well deserved, I promise.

I agree with AB that Ryan O’Reilly would be an excellent choice (he and linemate Landeskog are pretty much why the Avs aren’t a complete disaster this season, especially with Duchene injured), but I actually prefer him with the full beard. But I’ve always been kinda partial to a well-executed viking-esque or lumberjackian sort of look. Also, he’s definitely grown into his looks — he’s only 20, and a lot of the pictures from when he was younger… well, let’s just say he’s much, much hotter now, and I think the beard emphasizes that.

two articles about why he’s awesome:

… Annnnnnnnnd now that I’ve gone on far too long, I’ll go back to lurking. /o
