Chuck and I have been so busy at our real jobs that we’re late in posting some of the very best stuff I’ve ever seen from a hockey summer.  Let’s start with the most important thing.

I posted a photo of this, but that is not even close to the proper pedestal on which it should be elevated in the WUYS Hall of Fame:

Foxy Friday x Infinity

Between hiccups of hysterical laughter, I was thinking:

Patrick Kane looks frighteningly attractive here, in yet another all-American polo shirt.  Dan Carcillo has the same haircut as a ragamuffin orphan in a Disney live-action musical.  Which is to say no haircut at all.

Team Tightpants on the other side of the stage… well, there’s no question why the girl comedian got that squad.

It takes her LESS THAN TWO MINUTES to make this happen:

Did you get all of that?

(.gifs by ladds.tumblr.com)

Look at her.  She can’t believe that worked!  Her equilibrium is shot – she’ll stumble every time she hears the word “Superman” for the rest of her life.

We were three buttons from a Magic Mike Tribute.  She’s a hero.

(A few WUYS friends were in the audience for this Second City panel and were obviously tackled by security just off-screen.)

Check out these fan photos with Shaw – piggyback? Charlie’s Angels?  Could he be more fun?

WUYS reader Amy asked for this.  He said yes.  Cue the wedding bells.

Also, a high five to the person at @NHLBlackhawks that posted this photo:

While you technically cannot repeat as a Foxy Friday, we do recounts for stunts like this.  Get that message out to everyone already featured.  We accept bribes of the brawny variety.

These pictures are from all over the place.  If they’re yours, we’d love to hug/credit you!  More photo fun shortly – I have to at these pretend I’m working today.

Kings Of The Road http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/06/04/kings-of-the-road/ http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/06/04/kings-of-the-road/#comments Mon, 04 Jun 2012 20:17:19 +0000 http://whatsupyasieve.com/?p=10872 If any of you have watched NBC’s Post Game wrap-up, then you know Other-Brother-Darryl needs to take that sh*t on the road! Because having handled talent and sat through countless hours of interviews and seen press chewed up and spat out by the best, Other-Brother-Darryl ranks right up there only he is god damn funny about it.

Saturday night Drew Doughty went from an over-priced, cry-baby, cheese-burger eating hold out to a Rocket Man shooting lazers out his ass and smacking Devils like he was at a carnival and Brown was taunting him with a donut for each one he could take out!

Clearly Drew is VERY motivated! That’s my boyfriend!

Even though each game has gone into OT, the LA KINGS have shown they can re-group when it matters and pull it out. For the GW – it was Pancakes for the block on Brodeur and Carter came in on the blocker side. You totally know Richards and Carter made sweet love on the 6 hour flight back to Los Angeles and ravaged the mini bar to boot!

The Kings now have the NHL record of 10 road wins in the post-season. But they don’t do well at home. So tonight Magic Cat is wishing you the best of luck boys!

A little something extra between the paws!

Pancakes For Everyone – Uno, Dos, Adiós! http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/05/23/pancakes-for-everyone-uno-dos-adios/ http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/05/23/pancakes-for-everyone-uno-dos-adios/#comments Wed, 23 May 2012 05:48:08 +0000 http://whatsupyasieve.com/?p=10712 My cats have banned me from the TV. Osiris Jones actually mews at anyone who swears. True Story. And there was a ton of it tonight. I swear like a sailor and many of Mr. Cherrie’s friends think I learned it from him but actually, I taught him pretty much everything he knows. My grandfather worked on the railroad in the Great Depression.

Winner, Winner, Pancake Dinner!

I told Mr. Cherrie when the game went into O.T. Pancakes was going to get the GWG. He just rolled his eyes at me since everyone was calling it the Radim Vrbata show.

I only wish I had this much time on my hands ….

And Drew Doughty was a man on fire and I have officially decided he has earned his own version of the Gordie Howe Hat Trick – THE DREW DOUGHTY HAT TRICK: he shoots a GOD D#$M LAZER ROCKETbut someone else taps, touches, directs, goes off their skate, pad, face or otherwise touches the pucks so he only gets the assist on an otherwise masterful shot. But that’s OK because he’s one cool cat and a goal is a goal.

The win didn’t come without controversy when Brown took out Rozsival with a devastating hit and a penalty wasn’t called because the Coyotes were off-sides. Just after Rozsival was taken off the ice, LA scored and the hand shake line was less than cordial with the classy Coyotes fan throwing crap on to the ice.

Pancake’s interview after the game was self-deprecating referring to Quick as Mr. Vezina-Smyth. He also said that he was going to enjoy this trip to the Stanley Cup more than the last.

Stat Girl has a few things to tease your brain with:

LA KINGS are the first 8th seed EVER to dispatch the 1st, 2nd and 3rd seed teams.

LA KINGS have broken the NHL record with 8 straight road wins in a play-off season.

LA KING have broken the NHL record with 10 straight road wins in consecutive seasons.

So a BIG WUYS congratulation LA KINGS! Here’s to your second trip ever to the Stanley Cup Finals.

As Cartman loves to say: “GO KINGS GO!”

Ugly Still Gets It Done http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/05/18/ugly-still-gets-it-done/ http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/05/18/ugly-still-gets-it-done/#comments Fri, 18 May 2012 16:41:37 +0000 http://whatsupyasieve.com/?p=10655

um .. did I say Ugly? nah .. I’d take a ride into the boards with these guys ANY DAY!

Last night’s game was like the first episode of The Bachelorette. 25 suitors vying for one slightly used but marginally OK single mom.

LA’s Dennis the Menace

Not a lot of rough stuff – Shane Doan with yet another penalty, a few taunts, a couple of chest puffs but all in all, a tight game with one impression rose – Dwight King – I’m looking at you – Rookie Stand out with his 5th goal and Game Winner! Short side – high glove – like a goal scorer.

It wasn’t either team’s best game but the Kings still came out on top. Which begs the question: Come Saturday – will the Coyotes bring it or will they be swept and wept?

Kopi’s not ready for summer yet!

Not that I like to rub salt in a wound but at this point, I’m about records and captions and I’m dying to use: uno, dos, adiós….

Pancakes Makes French Toast – Carter Tricks for Hats http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/05/16/pancakes-makes-french-toast-carter-tricks-for-hats/ http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/05/16/pancakes-makes-french-toast-carter-tricks-for-hats/#comments Wed, 16 May 2012 16:52:19 +0000 http://whatsupyasieve.com/?p=10629 The Kings devastated the Coyotes last night in more ways than one. The Coyotes bit back and not in a nice way. I was going to take the high road in this post and talk about how adorable Antoine Vermette was in his pre-game interview but then the Coyotes took a page from the Penguin’s book of Poor Sports and all this happened:

Shane Doan takes Trevor Lewis’ face for a wipe board. OK-  he did turn but a delayed penalty had already been called for slashing on BROWN so all Doan needed to do was reach for the puck – not take Lewis’ face for a ride. He got thrown out which was appropriate – IN MY OPINION.

Mike Smith slashes Dustin Brown in the back of the knees. They get MATCHING penalties because the ref thinks Brown is embellishing – HELLO! Anyone who gets the craps smacked out of the back of their knees with a goalie stick by a 6’3” MONSTER isn’t embellishing ANYTHING.

As one commentator said, “If that was acting, it’s some of the best to come out of Hollywood in years!”

Then Hanzal decides ride Brown into the boards like a whore on Saturday night. Fellas, I get it, you’re frustrated. You got your asses handed to you by an 8th seed team for a second night. But this is UNACCEPTABLE.

Then – my favorite of the night – Dustin “Pancakes” Penner decides enough is enough and when a scrum breaks out to quell it, he just sits on Antoine Vermette. Awesomesauce. Nothing says shut your face like a 6’ 4” manbeast sitting on your lame ass.

Oh did I mention that Jeff Carter, man of the hour, got a natural hat trick? The first one for the Kings in the play-offs since  – oh – Wayne Gretzky in 1993? Yeah … that happen too last night!

HAPPY SUTTER/ANGRY SUTTER

OH WHAT A NIGHT! Feel good about that one guys. Mad respect for your play. But I knew that – 😉

Dawn – you are so funny. Calling me to wish me good luck tonight!

So the LA King’s have lost only one play-off game so far … No, that is not a typo. ONE.

This is what you want from your captain – A COMPLETE BEAST!

Coach Dave Tippett of the Coyotes, seems to be the only other person on the planet besides me, the only LA KINGS fans (OK – I know there are like – four of us) who know how AWESOME they are and should FEAR their AWESOMENESS.

The press conference after game one went pretty much like this:

Kopitar NEVER gives up on a puck – NEVER

Press person: Coach, how do you think Kopitar was able to blah blah…

Tippett: I didn’t give a F**K about Kopitar. I have to worry about my players and how they perform.

Press person: So when Brown did blah blah blah …

Tippett: I don’t give a F**K about Brown. I have to worry about my players and how they perform.

Press Person: So when they scored again in the second period …

Tippett: Maybe you didn’t hear me the second time, I have to don’t give a F**K about the LA KINGS right now, I have to worry about my players and the fact that they didn’t perform tonight. Any more questions? Alright. Thanks.

GO KINGS! KEEP BEING UNDER-RATED  – RIGHT UP UNTIL YOU WIN THE CUP!

MY BOYS! BREAKING BAD!

OK – SRSLY – I am so watching Tampa Bay now. Where have you been – Mr. Under the Radar.

I’m in love AGAIN! But that’s OK. It happens all the time. Y’all are used to it by now. With the hunt for Lord Stanley in full swing the rest of the World has this going on.

Look closely for the dancing ping pong players circling in the background. There are better things I can think of doing with those balls boys – just sayin’ if I was there.

Why can’t this get spread out … like over summer when there is a HUGE DROUGHT OF NOTHINGNESS going on?

Somewhere is Sweden there is a hotel packed to the gills with this hot mess happening (link). Varför kan inte detta vara mig på Viktor Hedmans knä?

The great oracle Orisis Jones was right as far as part of the West Coast goes:

That was our happy face after the sweep!

Not since 1993 have the LA Kings been to a conference final and that was when the Great One played for them – as in Wayne Gretzky.

WTF are the LA KINGS doing in the play-offs?

The Kings have swept the #1 and #2 seed and yet the astonishment abounds how a team with the 29th worst scoring record in the league manages to knock them off.

But that was before other brother Darryl Sutter took command. And all I can say is Capt. Dustin Brown’s mug shot makes him look like Dennis the Menace and I want to adopt him.

don’t let this sweet face trick you – he will destroy you on the ice

And Kopitar, OMG – if the Capitals Captain and Assistant Captains – ahem – played like this – holy bejesus – Kopitar had some killer floor checks. He had four Blues on him while the rest of his team changed and still kept the puck in.

He had this fly save in the crease for Quick that was a game saver!

And still people have to ask why the LA KINGS are in the play-offs? Puppet Please?! It’s not just Drew Doughty that’s touched by god anymore.

Looks like just enough room for me guys!

These guys are en fuego in more ways than one. I’d marry them all and move to Utah with my harem! It’s not just play-off time, it’s pay-off time!

I’m here to kick ass AND chew bubble gum. Lucky for you, I brought the bubble gum.

The Kings have lost only ONE play-off game to date. And after listening to the announcers last night, could they have made anymore snide/ weight remarks? Let me count them down for you:

  • Doughty certainly is a well-rounded player
  • Doughty just skated down the Blues bench and told them they’d have to be quicker than that to throw a hit on him
  • Doughty just got a free one off Elliott
  • Who knew the Kings could go on such a winning streak without Doughty scoring

On a better note – Mike Richards is the only other player with a Gordie Howe Hatrick! The other player – Gingeroux!

I’m sexy and I know it!

That is mighty fine company sisters.

So for those keeping count, the Kings are up 3-0 AGAIN in their series. For an 8th seat team – that’s super totes. For a Sutter brother, it’s in the genes.

For the Blues, evidently, this is their way of keeping Doughty in check – evidently, they stole my diary:

yes, that's super model Rachel Hunter with the newly dubbed, west coast - 'bigboy hair'

But what’s really important is what he does on the ice which is this:

But I’ll be honest, it’s nice that under all that is this too :

LA seems to agree with Mr. Stoll

I appreciate you, Nashville Predators. http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/04/18/i-appreciate-you-nashville-predators/ http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/04/18/i-appreciate-you-nashville-predators/#comments Wed, 18 Apr 2012 17:14:13 +0000 http://whatsupyasieve.com/?p=10152 There are lots of things that I love about playoff hockey.

And although I’m a little disappointed with all the nasty play and dirty hits and the lack of respect that some players *coughraffitorres* have shown for their fellow players, there is something about this time of year that makes my heart just fill up with joy and excitement.

I love that I acutally have the opportunity to watch teams that I otherwise never get to see.  Like the Nashville Predators, for instance.

For years, I’ve been indifferent to them.  I didn’t hate them, nor did I love them.  They were just there.  Existing in a Western Conference world that I just never visited.

I respect Barry Trotz and his loyalty immensely.  I give props to the organization being patient and slowly building an organization and a team that can compete with the big dogs of the NHL.  I makes me happy to see that the fans in Nashville have embraced this team and the sport of hockey.

The Preds have made the playoffs 7 out of their 13 years of exsitance and last year, they even won their 1st ever playoffs series, defeating the Anaheim Ducks in the first round Also that season, they had 16 regular season sell-outs and 6 sell-outs during the playoffs.

Well played, Music City.

We love hockey almost as much as we love country music!

Well, last night, I had the chance to watch the Preds take on the Wings in game 3 of their series.  Although the Preds are seeded #4 to the Wings’ #5, you know this is going to be a tough series, but I’m really liking the Preds chances in this one.

Pekka Rinne is a freak of nature a la Zdeno Chara and should not be as atlethic and quick as he is.

He is 6’5″!  He’s a goalie! It boggles the mind.

So very tall.

Martin Erat is playing well.  Paul Gaustad and David Legwand are well over 50% in face-off wins.  Shea Weber and Ryan Suter are doing a great job of shutting down Zetterberg, Datsyuk and all the other offensive talent that the Wings have.  They are arguably one of the best defensive pairings in the NHL.  (Chara & Seidenberg are the best.  Sorry, I’m biased)

They have some great young players, especially Gabriel Bourque, who scored this beaut last night.

KNEE DROP. SNIPE.

It also helps that the Predators have two Boston University Terriers on their roster – Brandon Yip and Foxy Friday honoree, Colin Wilson. As a tried and true Terrier, my blood runs scarlet and white and seeing two very talented former college players from my alma mater get the chance to play in the NHL makes me appreciate this team even more.

So for the remainder of their playoff run, I’ll be rooting for the blue and gold, much to Gator’s dismay.  She’s already mad at me because of the Bruins/Caps series and now this one, too.

What can I say?  I’m digging the Predators.

Perhaps I’ll have to invest in NHL Center Ice next year, after all….

No, no. Thank YOU.

Dawn, Ovi - sorry for the bad season. I do better in play-offs. I promise. BOOM! hahahahahahah

So when this campaign started the feedback was terrible so they adjusted it STAT because it was like the MasterCard ad, the Hockey Discover Card and “I Just Want My Pants Back” had a drunken three way, someone got pregnant and no one wanted to take responsibility for the monster that came of it.

Hockey fans will tell you straight up when something stinks.

I get TPTB wanted to include the fans but thank god we bascially got a bastard child of HISTORY WILL BE MADE! I don’t want to see faux Hollywood replicas of what they think we are doing in our homes/bars/favorites hockey watching spots. Trust me – WE KNOW. And it wasn’t what they were showing us.

I want to see Ovi telling me what he’s GOING to do in the play-offs.

Dear NHL - stilling waiting for Letang's solo "Because of the Cup" ad. Statistically speaking - Pens can win without St. Sid but not with out #58. Just sayin'

I want to see Kris Letang brush his sexy hair out of his face and smile at me as he skates at the screen.

I want to see Erik Karlsson and his glorious mullet, all awkward and sh&t.

Dear little man, may you win the Norris if Kris Letang (a complete dark horse but I wish would win) doesn't.

Hell, I’d even take Jagr saluting me! (not quite but see below for you hard core philly fans – bless you all!)

You've grown on me like a fungus but you make me laugh - which is hard to do!

It isn’t quite that but it will do for now. So for your viewing pleasure if you haven’t seen these yet:

Foxy Friday: Craig Smith http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/03/30/foxy-friday-craig-smith/ http://whatsupyasieve.com/2012/03/30/foxy-friday-craig-smith/#comments Sat, 31 Mar 2012 01:14:38 +0000 http://whatsupyasieve.com/?p=9828 Did you really think we’d forget?

Okay, so for a minute there, we might have.  Here has just been so much work and life and commotion going on in the WUYS offices right now, that you can’t blame us.

But fear not!  Your Foxy Friday is here!

A bit late, but as they say “Better late than never.”

This week’s honoree – Craig Smith from the Nashville Predators

The Preds are putting together a serious campaign to take the title of NHL’s Foxiest this season.  Mike Fisher. Colin Wilson.  Pekka Rinne.  And now Craig Smith.

This 6’1″, 197 lb rookie center is right there with them.  His stats in his first season rank him 8th among NHL Rookies (13 G, 20 A, 33 pts) and the kid is starting to make a name for himself in Music City.

Also, he has good hair and bone structure that makes Patrick Sharp jealous.

I'm coming for your title, Sharpie.

He leads all Predators with 20 pts on the road this season.  He’s second amoungst all NHL Rookies with 6 power play goals this season.  And his play earned him a spot in the on the Rookie team at the NHL All Star game.

Second in assists by a Predator rookie in a single season (20), behind only Martin Erat (24, 2001-02). He also ranks third on the Preds all-time rookie points (31) -behind Radulov (18g-19a-37pts) and Erat (9g-24a-33pts).  He posted three points in a game vs. Vancouver which tied him from second-highest total by a rookie in Preds history.

Not too shabby for the former Wisconsin Badger from Madison.  Craig Smith is most deserving of the Foxy Friday honor.

But life ain’t always easy for the rookie.  Especially when this happens.

Awkberg. Even Mike Fisher is trying hard to not to laugh at the kid’s misfortune.  You just want to hug him, make him a mug of hot chocolate with lots of marshmallows and tell him that it is going to be okay.

But you have to admit…it is sort of funny.  Horrifiyingly embarassing, but funny.

Also, some of you with a strange Edward Cullen fantasy might find this photo sexy.

Craig Smith has vampire teeth.

The only member of the Cullen Clan worth giving up your mortal life for.

(Personally I find Edward Cullen a creepy, sparkly, controlling pedophile boyfriend, but I digress.)

Underrated: Chris Kelly http://whatsupyasieve.com/2011/11/29/underrated-chris-kelly/ http://whatsupyasieve.com/2011/11/29/underrated-chris-kelly/#comments Tue, 29 Nov 2011 11:00:51 +0000 http://whatsupyasieve.com/?p=8128 Hey all…

Chuck here.  Sorry I’ve been MIA lately.  Between grad school, Thanksgiving, and my grandpa dying, it’s been a little crazy town over here.

But I’m BACK!  So here it goes…

He’s might not be fancy or flashy or a household name.

But one thing Chris Kelly is – A damn good hockey player.

Like a ninja.

Picked up last season from Ottawa a few weeks before the trade deadline, CK23 is primarily seen as a defensive centerman.  But this year, he has been quietly and effectively displaying his offensive prowess for the resurgent Boston Bruins.

His stats so far this season – 9 goals & 7 assists  and a +15 through 22 games.  Not so bad for a 3rd line center, eh?

Kelly came up seriously big in the Bs win over the Jets on Saturday, scoring the game-tying AND the game-winning goals.  That first star was rightly deserved.

He’s a player of great skill, serious consistency, and hard work.  Day in and day out you know what you are going to get from Kelly, which makes him in valuable role model for young players like Seguin and Marchand.   Much like Patrice “The Professor” Bergeron, he does so many little things that make him an invaluable addition to any team.

With Rich Peverley and Beniot Pouliot on the wings and Kelly in the center, the Bruins’ 3rd line production has been better than I think anyone could have expected.  Peverley is 4-10-14 with +7 rating.  Even Pouliot’s play has been good considering his “reputation”. Maybe that has something to do with the calm, quiet leadership that Kelly provides.

His demeanor and work ethic have not gone unnoticed by Coach Claude either.  Kelly has been sharing the “A” with Andrew Ference this season (Kelly wears it on the road, Ference at home), which goes to show that some times nice guys do finish first.
