It’s that special time of the year again when all of our favorite hockey players dress up in hilarious and sometimes ridiculously tiny, costumes, for our entertainment.  Most of the time, it is to bring joy and smiles to sick kids.  But sometimes it is strictly for our enjoyment.

TURTLE POWER!  Seguin as Raphael? Benn as Leonardo?  If you know anything about TMNT, you know how supremely perfect this is.

Our love for Beguin is real and true, but this year’s Candy Bowl goes to Matt Fraser, Dougie Hamilton, Kevan Miller, Matt Bartkowski, Torey Krug, and Seth “Stewie” Griffith from the Boston Bruins.

Couple of years ago, we had Zee Bunny. This year, we get Dougi-Elsa.

We applaud these men for completely letting go of their ego (and their dignity) to don these costumes to cheer up a bunch of sick kids.

Krug totally loves warms hugs. Griffith’s Hans wig gives new meaning to the term hockey hair. And Matt Fraser, bless his heart) looks like a ‘roided out Pippi Longstocking.

But let’s be honest – Matt Bartkowski is everything.  If there was anyone on the Bruins roster that could pull off that look, it was Bart.  The Sven the Reindeer costume look absolutely perfect on him.  When he come to the WUYS Fancy Dress Party as my date, I want him to wear that.

I love it and I love him. Be my boyfriend.

I’m sure the Bruins weren’t the only team to dress up and have a good time, but boy, did they do it with some flair.

But lately we’ve been so hungry that we are getting HANGRY.

The Bear in the Gang – A Christmas Spectacular

In this Bear and the Gang Christmas Spectacular, the team is all gathered in a cozy winter cabin where holiday hijinks ensue.

It’s safe to say that in addition to my hopes for the Caps this season, my Halloween expectations are now off the charts, boys.

Congratulations to Nicky on the birth of his first daughter Haley on Tuesday.  I can’t cope with the cute!  Here’s an adorable WashingtonPost.com story.

Swedish star forward Carl Soderberg and the Boston Bruins reached an agreement on a multi-year contract Tuesday.

Finally, I’ll get my very own Swedish!

 While not on the level of say Viktor Stalberg, Henrik Lundqvist, Gabe Landeskog or the countless other ridiculously attractive Swedes that populate the NHL, he does sort of have an Eddie Redmayne/Heath Ledger-thing going on, which I am digging.

What I’m also digging that he is having his BEST season in the Smokin’ Hot Swedish Elite League – 31 goals & 60 points in 54 games.

At 6-foot-3 & 210-pound, Soderberg will bring some desperately needed size and scoring to the Bruins’ corps of forwards. *fingerscrossed*

By all accounts this looks to be a done deal with the only thing left to iron out was for the Swedish Ice Hockey Association to approve his transfer to the Bruins and the NHL.

But after the Great Iginla Caper of 2013, I won’t actually believe it is happening until the man steps off the plane, arrives at the Garden, dons a Bruins jersey, and gets on the ice.

Despite his potentially joining the team with about a dozen games left in the regular season, Soderberg would be eligible for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, provided that he play in one regular season game (Bruins already had his rights and on their reserve list.)

According to Bruins President Cam “Seabass” Neely, the team wants to give him a shot to prove himself.  Most likely he’d see time on the wing, as opposed to his regular center position.

Bruins have courted Soderberg for a number of years, but he always elected to stay in Europe.  Last year, they weren’t even sure if he’d ever play in the NHL.

So what changed?

Who knows? Don’t care.

What I do care about is how Soderberg adjusts his game for the NHL.  He has the skill set but we all know the game is decidedly different in Europe.

How will he handle the physicality and the smaller ice surface? For sure, his size will help, as will his skating ability, but that all remains to be seen.   Should that happen it has the potential to significantly help the Bruins in the playoffs.

Wonder how he is on the power play…

Happy Birthday to my dear dear friend and hockey partner-in-crime, Pants!

Now I know that this whole stupid lock out thing has got you depressed.  Hopefully these amazing gifs will cheer you up…

Why would I be at  football game? Free tickets. Other than that? THIS!

But first, I did not know it was mascot night until there he was, in all his fin-tabulous glory, floundering away on the jumbotron.

Of course, I hotfooted it down to where he was, as any good hockey fan at a football game would.

And just as Mr. Cherrie was about to take the photo, a football shot through the frame …

Fin was there for half-time hijinks! If I wanted to spend the night in jail, I would have run down on the field, tackled him and dry-humped him silly! I can only say the lack of hockey made me go completely insane for anything hockey related. 

Luckily, there was security and I was only allowed to get to this close to him.

Who would have thought I would have had a hockey experience at a Seahawks game! Ya just never know!

And THAT is your moment of zen …

I’ve been a BU season ticket holder for years now, so I’ve always been a big fan of the college game.  There are so many great reasons to watch college hockey (especially BU), but if you don’t believe me, just watch this video.

Two words for you: Eskimo Kisses.

This bromance between Ben Rosen (twitter: @brosen8) and Sean Escobedo (twitter: @seanesco21) might be the most epic in college hockey.  And you all know how we feel about bromances here at WUYS.

Not only do Ben and Sean (AKA Rosenbedo) give each other eskimo kisses but they sleep over each other’s houses, have every class together, know each other’s favorite snacks, and watch “The Office” together every Thursday. The list is endless.

Sean also reminds me of mini Brian Boyle (SANTA!), which we all know is not a bad thing.

The video is a little long (it’s a whole Newlyweds-style game show also feature former BU captain Chris Connolly and new team captain Wade Megan) but it totally worth watching if you want a good giggle.

There is something endearing to see future NHLers being completely hilarious and ridiculous.

Watch to the end and be rewarded.

Added bonus –  hockey players looking exceptionally fit in their t-shirts.

Not only did they commit their lives to each other, but they also celebrated with this cake.

They are true and loyal hockey/Kings fans.  (Also, this cake looks really yummy.  Now we’re craving cake…)

We have run tripped fallen chased followed been invited by Sid to the beach.

We’re making some small off-season tweaks around here.  Well, we are not actually doing anything – someone fantastically sci-fi is manning the ship (Hi Vince!).  Chuck and I are busy wondering if Sid had to wear these shorts out of the store because he tried them on and couldn’t get them off.

Well, sometimes you disappoint when you shave your goatee into a mustache that means you’re not allowed within 100 feet of a playground.

But then, you score the goal that keeps your team’s dream alive:

And somehow, magically, in the post-game your ‘stache has is approaching the border between ‘okay’ and ‘OKAY?!’

Our cries of, “WTH, who shaves in the playoffs?” were for nothing.  Shaving in the playoffs is the new black.  Henrique ditches the goatee, scores the GWG.  Clarkson removes his beautiful ruddy beard and gets an assist.  The entire Devils squad will be shorn for Game 5.

As you know, Henrique scored the series-ending double OT goal vs. Florida and the series-ending single OT (boring!) goal vs. New York.  The Calder Trophy voting for Rookie of the Year is only supposed to encompass the regular season – have they already voted?  It’s completely unfair if they haven’t, since neither Nugent-Hopkins or Landeskog reached the post-season.  Still, how can this performance not count?!  There’s no impartial jury out there now.

I felt bad that so many people paid so much money to see their team win at home – I dream of this someday being me.  That was quickly outweighed by my selfish desire for hockey season to last all year.  What else can make us so deliriously happy, gut-wrenchingly sad and seat-shiftingly uncomfortable?

Mike Richards.  Chuck called him a “dark swarthy pirate of love” for this look.  I think he’s starting to resemble an Ewok in the Witness Protection Program.  Pierre, of course, is on a first date.  Watch him do the ‘casual arm-swing’ hoping to brush against Mike.  We know all your tricks, little man!!  He’s going to walk Mike right to his door and hope to be invited in.

ACK.  I just threw up in my mouth a little.

Anyway, back to work for both teams Saturday night.  It’s a chance for the Devils to really make this one interesting, or the Kings to extend their record road-game streak.  Either way, I’m glad to get one more game out of this season.

Again? High five.

Saturday night Drew Doughty went from an over-priced, cry-baby, cheese-burger eating hold out to a Rocket Man shooting lazers out his ass and smacking Devils like he was at a carnival and Brown was taunting him with a donut for each one he could take out!

Clearly Drew is VERY motivated! That’s my boyfriend!

The Kings now have the NHL record of 10 road wins in the post-season. But they don’t do well at home. So tonight Magic Cat is wishing you the best of luck boys!

A little something extra between the paws!

In one hour, they will see their beloved team begin their quest for the Stanley Cup.

At this time last year, I felt much the way that they do right now.

Nervous.

Excited.

Anxious.

In the end, my team came away with the ultimate prize and my life was forever changed.

The joy and elation I felt was immeasurable.

Tom and Aaron, I hope you guys get to feel that too this year.
